First-week setup checklist
The exact order to set things up so nothing blocks you later.
Setting a school up in the right order saves a lot of backtracking. Fees depend on classes, students depend on classes, results depend on students — so build from the foundation up. Here is the sequence that works.
You do not have to finish everything in one sitting. Do it in this order across your first week, and each step will have what it needs from the one before.
The order to set things up
Create the academic session
Set the current year (for example 2025–26). Everything else attaches to this session. See Academic session & classes.
Add classes and sections
Create every class and section you run, and mark a class teacher for each. This is the backbone the rest hangs on.
Add staff and give logins
Add teaching and non-teaching staff, then hand out logins so teachers can start using their accounts. See Teachers & staff.
Admit students and link parents
Add students to their classes and link each to a parent account. See Admitting students.
Set up fees
Define fee types, build packages, and set installments, discounts and fines. See Setting up fees.
Brand your documents
Set the accent colour, seal and signatory for receipts, admit cards and report cards. See Document design.
Turn on optional extras
Enable the AI Assistant, set up scheduled backups, and switch on any modules your school uses.
Before you let staff and parents in
Do a quick sanity pass: sign in as a test teacher and a test parent (or ask one of each to try) and confirm they see the right class and the right child. It is far easier to fix access now than after everyone has started.
Set up the session and classes first. If you add students or fees before classes exist, you will have nowhere to put them and will have to redo the work.
