Academic session & classes

Create the year, add classes and sections, assign class teachers.

The academic session is the year everything belongs to. Classes and sections sit inside it, and students, attendance, fees and results all attach to the current session. Get this right first and the rest falls into place.

Setting the current session

A session is your academic year, such as 2025–26. Ovium marks one session as current — that is the one new work is recorded against. When a new year begins, you create the next session and make it current; the old one stays as history.

Fees and attendance always follow the current session. If figures look empty at the start of a year, check that the new session is marked current.

Adding classes and sections

1

Open Classes & Sections

From the left menu, go to Classes & Sections.

2

Add each class

Create a class (for example Class X) and its sections (A, B, …). Add every class your school runs.

3

Set the order

Give classes a sensible order (Nursery at the bottom up to your senior-most class) so lists and promotions read naturally.

4

Assign a class teacher

Pick a class teacher for each section. That teacher gets the class-teacher view for those students. You can do this now or after you have added staff.

Promoting to the next year

At year end, once the new session exists, you promote students from one class to the next. Report cards and history stay with each student, so promoting does not lose past results.

Assign class teachers as you create sections — it means teachers can start taking attendance the moment their accounts are ready.

What's next

With classes in place you can add staff and students. Fees come after that.
