Admitting students
Add students one by one or in bulk, and link parents.
Students live inside classes, so make sure the class and section exist first. You can admit students one at a time, or import a whole list at once. Each student is linked to a parent account so the family can follow along.
Admitting one student
Open Students and choose Admit Student
From the left menu open Students, then select Admit Student. A form opens.
Fill in the details
Enter the name, the class and section, an admission number and the basics. Fields marked required must be filled; the rest you can complete later.
Link the parent
Attach the student to a parent/guardian. If several children share one family, link them to the same family so one parent login covers all of them.
Save
Select Admit Student to save. The student now appears in their class list.
The admit window closes from its × or Cancel button, or by tapping the dimmed area outside it.
Importing many students
For a whole class or a new intake, a bulk import is far quicker than typing each one. Prepare a spreadsheet with a column per field (name, class, section, admission number, parent contact), then use the import option in the Students area and match your columns to Ovium's fields.
Check your spreadsheet before importing: every student needs a class and section that already exists, and clean parent contact details. Fixing the sheet first is easier than correcting rows afterwards.
How parent logins work
Each family gets one login that covers all their children in the school. Parents use it to see attendance, fees, results and notices for their own children only. See the Parents section for what they experience.
Students who leave
When a student leaves, you can mark them as alumni rather than delete them — their record and report cards are kept as history. See Alumni.
